What is a root canal?
A root canal, more formally known as root canal therapy, is an endodontic dental treatment that is often utilized to treat a tooth that suffers from serious infection. If the dental pulp (the inner layer of the tooth) and the tooth nerves become infected, you may experience severe tooth pain and discomfort. When left untreated, this infection can cause the tooth to die and require extraction (removal). During root canal therapy, we remove the infected nerves and pulp, clean the inside of the tooth, and fill the tooth with a special medicated material. We then seal the tooth with a crown or filling to protect it.
